Hyaluron Pen: what should you know about it

Those who have ever done or are interested a lip augmentation have rather come across a new trend – Hyaluron Pen Lip Augmentation. At first glance, it seems that this needleless lip augmentation is safer than the traditional lip injection by a doctor. Many cosmetologists started to offer this procedure and a lot of DIY videos are gaining thousands of views on Youtube. In this article we will tell you what is a hyaluronic pen injection, why is getting popular and which dangers can it bring?

How does a hyaluronic pen work?

A hyaluronic pen is a device that is used to inject hyaluronic acid fillers into face areas. Originally a such “pen” was created for diabetic patients to offer a needle-free way to inject insulin but recently has become more often used by cosmetologists for facial injections.

Nowadays, there are many types of hyaluronic pens (some examples you see below). But all of them work with the same principles based on the needle-free injection technology, which means using a high-pressure jet (at a speed of up to 800 km/h) to inject the skin and deliver hyaluronic acid under the upper layer of the skin.

What can be wrong with the Hyaluron Pen?

A problem of many doctors with the Hyaluron pen is the fact that a lot of misleading information and non-proven devices are out there and freely available on the Internet:

  • no-name hyaluronic acid in a set
  • no information about an expiry date, storage and transport rules
  • no guarantee that all products are sterile
  • no certification of many hyaluron pens

Another example that raises doubts about the advantages of the hyaluronic pencil: the picture below illustrates that, unlike the needle, the pencil should inject the medication more evenly into the upper layers of the skin.

However, watch the video demonstration of the hyaluronic pen injection and you will see that the preparation is distributed in a slightly different way as it is in the picture above.

I’m concerned that there are hundreds of videos on youtube with instructions on how to use the hyaluronic pen. It turns out that anyone, even without a medical degree, can buy this device online and inject themselves with hyaluronic from the Youtube videos (at home!). Or even worse when some cosmetologist performs procedures with the hyaluronic pen after just watching video tutorials on Youtube. All the accessibility and uncontrollability of these procedures can lead to an increase in side effects and mutilated patients.

So, is it worth trying the needleless lip augmentation?

When it comes to your face – please no experiment! Never try this or any other cosmetic treatments out of curiosity or to save money. It is not worth it. There are many cases when lip augmentation with the Hyaluron pen went wrong. The aim of any good doctor is to inject just the right amount of hyaluronic acid in the right place. Unfortunately, the hyaluronic pen does not enable the flexibility to create and form lips that fit just to your face.
